Managed IT services that deliver uptime, reliability, and technical consistency.

Located at 553 Brock Ave, New Bedford, MA 02740, Hazelwood Park is one of New Bedford’s most scenic and historic public parks, offering visitors a perfect blend of natural beauty, ocean views, and recreational opportunities. Stretching along the shores of Clark’s Cove, this peaceful retreat has been a cornerstone of the city’s waterfront community for over a century, providing a tranquil space for families, nature lovers, and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing picnic spot, a place to enjoy coastal scenery, or a hub for outdoor recreation, Hazelwood Park delivers all that and more.

A Park with Historic Charm

Hazelwood Park traces its roots back to the late 19th century, when it was part of the estate of Joseph C. Knowles, a wealthy New Bedford resident. The park’s name comes from the original estate, known as “Hazelwood,” which featured gardens, walking paths, and elegant landscaping typical of the Gilded Age.

In the early 20th century, the City of New Bedford acquired the property and transformed it into a public park, preserving much of its original charm while adding amenities for the growing community. Many of the park’s historic structures, such as the Hazelwood Park Mansion (now used for events and community gatherings), still stand as a reminder of the city’s rich cultural past.

A Scenic Coastal Setting

One of Hazelwood Park’s defining features is its breathtaking waterfront location. Situated along Clark’s Cove, the park offers expansive views of Buzzards Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Visitors can stroll along the paved pathways that wind through the park’s open green spaces, shaded by mature trees and cooled by the ocean breeze.

On sunny days, the water glistens with sailboats and fishing vessels, creating a peaceful, picturesque backdrop. Benches placed throughout the park invite visitors to sit and enjoy the view, making it a favorite spot for reading, photography, or simply relaxing by the sea.

Recreation for Everyone

Hazelwood Park is designed with something for everyone, from children and families to athletes and outdoor adventurers.

1. Walking Paths and Trails

The park’s walking and jogging paths provide a scenic route for exercise or leisurely strolls. The paved walkways connect to nearby residential streets, allowing locals to easily access the park by foot or bicycle.

The trails also link to the New Bedford Harborwalk, a larger network of coastal pathways that promote fitness and outdoor exploration throughout the city.

2. Sports and Recreation Areas

Hazelwood Park features open fields and recreational facilities perfect for a wide range of activities:

  • Baseball and soccer fields where youth teams and community leagues gather for friendly competition.

  • Tennis and basketball courts for those looking to get active while enjoying the ocean air.

  • Open lawns that provide ample space for frisbee, kite flying, or impromptu family games.

The park’s large open fields also make it a popular venue for fitness classes, yoga sessions, and outdoor events.

3. Playgrounds for Families

For families with young children, Hazelwood Park offers a modern playground equipped with swings, slides, and climbing structures. The playground is surrounded by grassy areas and shaded spots where parents can relax while keeping an eye on their kids.

It’s a favorite weekend destination for local families, offering safe, clean, and engaging fun for children of all ages.

4. Picnic and Barbecue Areas

Scattered throughout the park are picnic tables, pavilions, and barbecue grills, perfect for gatherings with friends and family. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, weekend cookout, or casual lunch with ocean views, Hazelwood Park provides an idyllic setting for outdoor dining.

The park’s layout allows visitors to enjoy privacy even during busy times, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the seaside atmosphere.

Community Events and Activities

Hazelwood Park is more than just a recreational space, it’s a hub of community life in New Bedford. Throughout the year, it hosts festivals, concerts, and family-friendly events that draw visitors from across the city.

From summer concert series and cultural festivals to holiday celebrations and outdoor movie nights, the park’s open-air setting makes it ideal for large gatherings. Many of these events are organized in partnership with the New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches Department, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to public engagement and cultural enrichment.

During the warmer months, you might find food trucks, local art displays, and live performances that bring the park to life, turning it into a vibrant gathering place for residents and tourists alike.

A Natural Retreat in the City

Despite being located near downtown New Bedford, Hazelwood Park feels like a world away. Its rolling lawns, shaded groves, and coastal breezes create a sense of tranquility that’s perfect for unwinding after a busy day.

Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts often visit to spot local wildlife, including seabirds and seasonal migratory species. The park’s proximity to the water also makes it an ideal location for photographers hoping to capture the interplay of light and sea.

In every season, Hazelwood Park offers its own unique beauty from spring blossoms and summer sunshine to the golden hues of fall and the serene stillness of winter.

Preserving a Legacy

The City of New Bedford has taken great care to preserve Hazelwood Park’s historical and environmental significance. Renovation projects have focused on maintaining the park’s landscape, restoring historic features, and ensuring accessibility for all visitors.

Efforts include:

  • Improved lighting and pathways for safety and accessibility.

  • Renovation of the historic Hazelwood Mansion, now used for public and private events.

  • Sustainability initiatives, such as planting native trees and managing stormwater runoff to protect Clark’s Cove.

These efforts have helped maintain Hazelwood Park’s status as one of New Bedford’s most beloved public spaces while keeping it vibrant for future generations.

FAQs About Our Managed IT Services

How Often Should Managed IT Providers Review Your Systems?

A quality provider should review infrastructure quarterly, addressing performance, risks, and improvement opportunities. These reviews help align IT with your business needs.

What’s The Difference Between Help Desk And Managed IT Services?

Help desk support is reactive and ticket-based. Managed IT services include proactive maintenance, monitoring, planning, and direct oversight of your entire IT environment.

Can Managed IT Services Support Hybrid Or Remote Teams?

Yes. Managed IT services include secure remote access, cloud integration, VPN support, and collaboration tools to keep distributed teams connected and protected.

What Happens During Onboarding With A New Managed IT Provider?

A full environment assessment, documentation process, and knowledge transfer occur. Systems are reviewed, risks are identified, and long-term support plans are developed.

Are Managed IT Services Still Needed With Internal IT Staff?

Yes. Many organizations use managed IT services to augment internal teams, cover gaps, add expertise, and manage areas like cybersecurity, compliance, or infrastructure.

FAQs About Our Managed IT Services

Is switching MSPs difficult? Will it impact my team?

No. We have developed and refined an onboarding process to minimize disruption for your team. We recommend an overlap period with your current provider (based on the size of your organization), so we can receive documentation and access to your systems and transition your devices to our cybersecurity tools. Your users may notice new software agents installed on their computers and will have new numbers to contact for support. Otherwise, there should be minimal disruption.

How quickly can I get started?

Staff can depart quickly and leave you in a bind. We can help. The first step is to schedule a fifteen-minute call with us to determine if our service is a fit. Next, we proceed to discovery, which could be a call or an on-site network assessment. Once this is done, we will meet to discuss our findings and to make recommendations for any system or security upgrades. We will also discuss ongoing managed services and a timetable for moving forward.

Will my current MSP be upset when I tell them I’m switching?

No one likes to lose a customer, but established firms understand this is part of working with any client. They have procedures in place to make the transition from one provider to another go smoothly. If you are concerned that your current provider won’t act professionally, that is a good reason to look for a new provider.

Do you charge more for on-site support?

Our rates are the same for on-site and remote support. We charge remote support in 15-minute increments, so remote support is ideal for simple issues. We do charge travel for on-site support, but many clients prefer scheduled visitation. Some technical issues require an on-site visit.

Do you outsource your helpdesk overseas?

MTSi has been based in Massachusetts since 1998 and our support team is located in our Fairhaven office. When you speak to someone at MTSi, they are in our Fairhaven office or working remotely from home (always in the United States).

How much does the service cost?

Compared to other professional IT companies, our pricing is very competitive. We custom tailor our pricing to each customer, so we need to get to know you and your firm before giving you a price. The first step is to schedule an introductory call with us.

What happens if my network goes down in the middle of the night?

That is completely up to you. We will work with you during implementation to understand which systems need attention off hours (if any), who needs to be notified, how we can get building access, etc. We will document this protocol and follow it for any event that occurs outside normal working hours.

I don’t have a CIO (or anyone in IT). Can you help with IT planning?

Yes. We provide an IT Roadmap for our customers and help them manage their systems lifecycle. Having End-of-Life systems is a significant cybersecurity risk, so when a manufacturer announces and End-of-Life date for a product our customers use, we meet with them well in advance of the End-of-Life date to discuss alternatives and upgrades. This helps our customers budget well in advance for upcoming projects and avoid surprise expenses that can break the budget.
